2005 petite sirah estate Grown SV

Notes from the winemaker:

Petite Sirah traditionally has been used as a blending wine. The generous amounts of tannins and intense color make it an ideal grape for blending with wines that lack these attributes. But lately Petite Sirah has been getting the attention of wine lovers as a stand alone wine variety. I have been making Petite Sirah since the beginning of my wine making career in 2001 and have been bottling it as a varietal wine since 2003.  I like to make my Petite Sirah like all my other wines emphasizing the fruity character of the grapes and avoiding any excessive harshness. I accomplish this by harvesting the fruit when it is fully ripe and by using our Submerged Cap Fermentation Tanks that effectively extracts the flavor, color and mouthfeel components from the skins without introducing harshness to the wine.

Last January we bottled most of our 2005 Estate Petite Sirah, a total of 540 cases. However we left out a small part of this wine for an additional 6 months of aging in special barrels. The result is a Petite Sirah that is exceptionally elegant.  This inky dark purple wine is all fruit from the aroma in the beginning all the way to the finish. The aroma which is predominantly blueberry with nuances of baking spices and orange rind carries to the palate adding cocoa and vanilla and hints of mint and pepper. The bold finish lingers long after the wine is consumed
