Winemaker's Notes:
Barbera is the most widely planted grape in the Piemonte region of Italy. Alba and Asti are the two growing regions in Piemonte in which the varieties and yields are regulated by the government. Barbera is becoming more prominent and challenging the best of Barolo and Barbaresco.
This Barbera comes from the Oakmont Vineyard owned by Vicki Delpart in the Shenandoah Valley region of Amador County. Vicki's Barbera block is on a hilltop that slopes down from East to West. This is the third year that we are making Barbera from this vineyard.
This wine was made in a "Submerged Cap" Fermentation Tank. It was aged in French and American oak barrels for a full year. This wine has very distinctive cherry, plum and blackberry aromas and cranberry and pomegranate flavors with well balanced acidity. The wine shows good structure and complexity in the mid-palate and has a lingering finish of coffee and anise.
